Cawrence Farm Cottages

There is plenty to suit all tastes in West Wales, including walking, riding, sailing, old castles, mines, theme parks and shopping, West Wales has it all. Here are some of our recommendations: -

Towns

Cardigan:  Is only three miles away and is a pretty market town with a good selection of shops. There is an excellent cinema and theatre and in the summer Cardigan holds several large festivals.

Aberaeron: A beautiful and unusual seaside town with colourful painted buildings and a picturesque habour.

Carmarthen & Haverford West are both within an easy drive and have excellent shopping areas.

Beaches and Walks

Poppit Sands:  This is a wide sandy beach next to the mouth of the River Tiefi and is approximately a mile from Cardigan. Excellent for bathing. The Pembrokeshire coast path starts here.

Mwnt: Also right next to Cardigan but on the other side is Mwnt, a smaller but wonderfully pretty beach with plenty of sand surrounded by a rocky craggy coastline.

Llangrannog:  Our favourite beach, this is picture postcard material and only about 15 minutes away.

Tiefi River:  This boasts several excellent walks from Cardigan and the local nature reserve(incorporating a family canoe hire centre), through rare wetlands and past Cilgerran Castle.

Attractions

The National Botanical Gardens of Wales are about a 45 minutes drive away, they are an excellent day out for the whole family.

Cenarth Falls are only five minutes away. These spectaular falls offer an opportunity to see Salmon leaping during the Autumn and are well worth a visit at any time of year.

Cenarth Bridge

Oakwood Theme Park has many major rides and thrill seekers will not be dissapointed.

The Dolaucothi Gold Mines offer something different including somewhere to purchase  some rare welsh gold.

Castell Henllys Iron Age Fort and Pentre Ifan Burial Chamber.  These two attractions are close to one another and offer an excellent insight into the distant past of Wales.
